Any good Catholic knows that praying the Rosary takes about 15 minutes.

Pretty quick, right?

But somehow, many people still try to drastically cut down that time through some pretty obvious techniques. Maybe you’ve seen them:

  1. ‘The Interrupter’

When saying the Rosary in a group, each person takes a turn to lead the prayers. That person will say the first half of the prayer, and the group will say the second half. ‘The Interrupter’ can easily shave off a few seconds from each ‘Hail Mary’ prayer, by coming in with the ‘Holy Mary’ part, just as the prayer leader is saying “Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.” In the end, ‘The Interrupter’ saves about 50 seconds.

2. ‘The Finger Counter’

‘The Finger Counter’ has left her rosary beads in another room and has to use her fingers. Let’s put it this way: she has 10 fingers, and there are 10 Hail Mary’s in each decade. If she skips a thumb, there’s a slight chance that nobody will notice. If someone does notice, then she can say it’s because she was using her fingers. It’s called ‘plausible deniability’. That’s about 30 seconds saved.
